Magic to winBased on the famous Chinese “Happy Ghost” series, Magic To Win is the story of an ordinary girl who inherits magical superpowers. She starts to enjoy the daily convenience of her powers which radically change her live, she even uses them to gain victory in her sports.

The abuse of her powers draws in unwanted attention as well as some family nemesis waiting to exact revenge. Boasting an all-star cast including Louis Koo, Raymond Wong, Wu Chung, Wu Jing, Yan Ni and Karena Ng, Wilson Yip, famed Director of Ip Man 1 & 2 brings extraordinary CGI to life in a US$10 million fantasy set in the magical world of the five wizardry elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth.

Producer’s Statement

Time flies, and the Happy Ghost series have not been brought to the audience in the silver screen for 20 years. All through the years, there have been a lot of audiences, commercial cinemas, and distribution companies asking me to re-make the Happy Ghost series in order to pass down the classics to a new generation, I somehow lacked the ambition to do so. I believed that the Happy Ghost series are already classics, and therfore no easy task to surpass and re-create as a success!

The chance came this year, when I decided to start filming 'Magic To Win', I hired the awarded crew from Ip Man (by Hong Kong Film Awards) to tailor-make the script. It contains the concept of fantasy, coupled with the CGI effects, including the elements of youth, adventure and action, and I am confident in presenting “Magic To Win” to the audience in an unprecedented perspective.

I believe it is destiny, as in recent years, fantasy-themed movies with CGI effects like superpower movies have been the hottest picks, and the box office is tremendously successful, yet it is always being missed out in the Chinese film industry. As the development of CGI effects has been rapidly growing and getting more mature, it is exciting to try to set the milestone for fantasy movie in Hong Kong. With the additional backing of an impeccable crew, I am more than confident to see it excel over the Happy Ghost series.

I hope the audience will enjoy 'Magic To Win': let’s recollect old memories in new ground!

Scriptwriter’s Statement

The producer mentioned that nowadays the number of youth inspirational movies are dropping, and he therefore asked us to write a contemporary comedy resembling the Happy Ghost series. In the preliminary stage of brainstorming, considering that the production standard of CGI effects, I decided to write a story with magic as the background, so as to fully utilize the magical CGI effects!

Apart from hoping the audience will enjoy the movie, I hope it will leave them with a positive message, and this is the meaning and value of making movies! The theme chosen this time are time and happiness, we are eager to let the audience to watch it light-heartedly, and to understand the importance of living for the moment and to seize the day. Quoting from the script, 'We definitely have the power to choose the way we live every day, happy or sad!' Life is short, we should face our lives positively, welcome the future with courage; this is how we can live our life to the fullest without any regrets.
