John Man is a prolific writer on China and his latest work The Leadership Secrets of Genghis Khan, examines the qualities and strategies of a great leader whose secrets for success are as relevant today as in the equally competitive world of the Mongol hordes. In When China Rules the World Martin Jacques examines what life and business will be like when China becomes a superpower, transforming our conceptualization of the world. Join us as these two authors debate China’s future as an economic giant and world power, and examine how its history will help determine its character in the 21st century. Moderated by John Gittings.

Little Leap Forward – A Boy in Beijing
With Guo Yue and Clare Farrow
Saturday 16th May, 2pm
Children £4, Adults £5
It is the summer of 1966, and Little Leap Forward and his friends are growing up in Beijing. He enjoys flying kites by the river, playing games and teaching his little yellow bird to sing. When the Red Guards arrive, the children suddenly see their lives change in startling ways. Yue, writer, musician, and gourmet cook, takes children on a multi media trip to his boyhood in Beijing during the Cultural Revolution, introduces them to Chinese calligraphy and helps them to decorate their own colourful Chinese kites, in an afternoon of storytelling, music and art.
