The UK Research and Development Centre for Chinese Traditional Culture (CTC) will present two unusual lecture-demonstrations on Sunday 11 December 2011 from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm in Central London.

2.00 pm - 3.30 pm - The Art of Kunqu Opera –talk-demonstration and performance in English by acclaimed Kunqu practitioner, Kathy Lee Hall. She will perform an excerpt from The Foolish Dream from The Broken Axe Mountain. There will be English and Chinese surtitles to enhance audience appreciation of the complex emotions, the unusual movements and use of voice, which set this opera apart. Kathy will also take you through the main features of this most refined genre of Chinese opera with colourful slides.

3.45 pm - 5.15 pm The Erhu and the Violin – A Comparison’ - a talk-demonstration by Amy Yuan (graduate from the Royal Academy of Music) in Mandarin, assisted with use of English.

The CTC was set up in 2011 to support and promote traditional Chinese culture in Britain, and to facilitate east-west cultural understanding. Co-presenters of this free event are the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, the London Jing Kun Opera Association and Danos and Haley.
