|
|
| Just a brief note to let readers in this Forum know that Amy Tan's best selling novel "The Bonesetter's Daughter" is being adapted into an opera, which is making its world premiere in San Francisco (USA) shortly. If you have not read this book, do go and get a copy and read it. A good book and hard to put it down in my view, and I am pretty sure many of you who have read it would agree. |

Readers of this Forum (who are fans of Dr. Adeline Yen Mah, author of one of my favourite book 'Falling Leaves') will be delighted to know that Aleline has a new book out. Her new book is called " China: Land of Dragons and Emperors " - a book about Chinese history. This book is not yet available in the UK, but only in Australia at the present moment.
Saw this clip (in You Tube) and thought I share it with readers of this Forum. Log onto:

I have personally met and spoken to Adeline at a book launch in London some years back. And, her book 'Falling Leaves', did inspire me to return to China to seek my roots and my ancestral home.
Look forward to reading her new book when it is available in the UK shortly. |

I am reading a book about joseph needham call bomb book and compass by simon winchester.
The book gives a very entertaining account of Needham time as a diplomat in China during WWII with special brief to discover the state of chinese academic health.
If you are incline to respect the law of coincident, divine blessing or conspiracy than this book is for you as Needham has a knack of bumping into the right people in his travel.

|
|
I recently came across a contemporary Chinese American writer named YAN Geling and note that her name has not been mentioned in this Forum. So, I would like to use this column to introduce her to readers here.
Yan Geling is well known in China and the USA. She has written over 20 books (novel and novellas) in Chinese and English. Her writings have been adapted for films and TV series in China. Filmmakers like Zhang Yimou, Joan Chen, Sylvia Chang have used her books in their films. She also wrote the script about the famous Chinese opera singer, Mei Lanfang, for Chinese director, Chen Kiage's film, 'Forever Enthralled'.
You can read Yan Geling's biography vide: http://redroom.com/member/geling-yan/bio , and you can listen to an interview of her vide: http://redroom.com/member/geling-yan/media/videos/the-impact-of-lifes- breakthroughs-english-language-interview-on-china .
Hope the above information is of interest to readers in this Forum. |
