It could be me but i notice that the more western a BBC is the more chinese music/culture they immerse themselves in whereas chinese people who've recently moved to UK try to get away from it...
How come this forum has a lot about promoting things and not a lot of discussing about TV or music or films.
It doesn't seem like anyone likes english/american music in this forum. |

Your observation is what I would expect. New arrivals need to adapt, so their attention would be on western music. Overseas born would seek their roots, so they focus on Chinese music.
You can discuss western music in the Eurovision 2008 thread, or start your own.
Most promoters on this site are fly-by-nights. They spam every board with the same message and disappear to spam some other websites.
There are some very knowledgeable musicians on this board. You just have to invent an interesting topic to discuss. |

A Phillipino friend of mine (of Chinese descent) alerted me to view this young diva on 'You Tube' recently. Her name is Charice Pempengco from the Phillipines. I am told she is half Chinese and half Phillipino. She has such an amazing and powerful voice for a 15 years old kid. She has now become an international star after appearing in a talent show in Korea late last year (2007) which was shown on 'You Tube' with well over 3 million hits on her youtube's clip. Log onto:

and enjoy the clip.
I am pretty sure Edwina will be impressed with her performance. |

Why did you think that? I don't agree with them. |

Saw this clip recently (quite moving) and thought it might be of interest to readers in this Forum. Log onto:

Thanks to Oprah Winfrey for making Charice's dream comes true. One can really feel that the love of Charice for her mother is truly genuine as she sang 'Because You Loved Me' live at Celine Dion's concert at Madison Square Garden, New York. |

Are you sure they deliberately try to get away from it, not just distracted from it? Because that's a big difference.
I imagine some new arrivals will be attracted to the local music/culture and thus become less interested in their own, but what about those who experience a culture shock? I know plenty of Chinese students abroad who would only hang out with Chinese and listen to Chinese music. _________________ MyEE Online - Connecting English learners and English speakers |

|
Seasons greetings to all you readers in this Forum and here's my choice of music for the occasion vide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KgLZ8b2ODE .
(N.B. The above is the theme music from the film 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence'. I love listening to Ryuichi Sakamoto playing the piano. I first came across him after watching the film "The Last Emperor" for which he with two other musicians co-won an Oscar for Best Music in 1988.)
Happy listening... Cheers. |
