Look forward very much to seeing ' Dark Matter ' when it is shown in the cinemas here in the UK shortly. This movie, starring Meryl Streep and Liu Ye, is directed by CHEN Shi-Zheng, who is based in New York, USA. Frankly, he is rather an un-known Film Director, but, he is well known in the Theatres here in the UK and USA for his works in Opera as Director.
' Dark Matter ' is his first motion picture. I am pretty sure, we will hear more about CHEN Shi-Zheng directing more movies in the near future. _________________ sunnyoy |

| Anyone see this one? Ekin Cheng, Aaron Kwok and that ABC guy from the new police story. Quite a good one and I'm impressed by Aaron's performance. Benny Chan has again produced another fantastic action thriller. Cinematography matches of hollywood, long live HK movies! |

ANG LEE's highly erotic new movie 'LUST, CAUTION' has been slapped with a harsh NC-17 rating in the US for scenes featuring extended and vigorous sex. The movie, which has been dubbed as the new Last Tango in Paris by film bosses at distributors Focus Feature. Neither Lee nor Focus Feature boss James Schamus will contest the hard rating for the film. which is adapted from Aileen Chang's short story. Schamus says, "Ang Lee has crafted a masterpiece about and for grown-ups." The racy Mandarin-language film, which stars Tony Leung and Tang Wei, also features implied oral sex and full frontal nudity.
As a fan of Ang Lee, I am looking forward to seeing this new movie of his (when it is released in the UK in January 2008). Hope it is just as good as his Oscar winning movie 'Brokeback Mountian'. |

I read about George Hogg recently and was impressed with his story and support for the Chinese People.
There is a statue of him at his old school at Shandan and as you know we Chinese do not raise statues to foreigners lightly. The film should be interesting but I don't think there was any love interest originally so that is perhaps Hollywood gloss.
You can read some of his background at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hogg_%28disambiguation%29
(There are three George Hogg, make sure you get the right one, Wikipedia defaults to a footballer of the same name, you want George Hogg (adventurer). |

" From the moment I read the screenplay about George Hogg in China and his untimely death, I knew it was a story I wanted to tell. Eight years followed as the script was developed and the cast and Chinese crew assembled. We spent six extraordinary months exploring China to find locations and then in late 2006 we started filming. At the same time we were finding many of the 'children' whom Hogg had rescued. They all remember him with profound love and devotion and seem to recall so much about the man who saved them all those years ago. "

Director, Children of the Silk Road |

If you haven't seen Eat Drink Man Woman, you should. My friends call it "the food porn movie", but it's excellent. It also helps that there's tons of drool inducing shots of dim sum, kitchens, and great Chinese food.
Another Asian themed film that I love is Charlotte Sometimes. I don't know how it is in British film (other than in the British films I've seen, I haven't seen many Asian actors at all other than Indian/Pakistani), but in American film Asians are incredibly typecast. This film shows two Asian couples as "real people", which even in the 2000s is almost groundbreaking. |
