Just watched on TV channel More4 the film 15 minutes (2001) with Robert de Nero. It is a satirical look at the Media and American Society in general through the hypothetical case of a pair of Russian criminals who visited the country.
So much of the Satire is still applicable and still unfolding in the West today. It is truly a visionary tale.
I wish I have seen it back than. It would have made me smarter.
Amazingly the film has only 1 Oscar nomination and award. May be back than it told of too much uncomfortable truth and people were distracted by 9/11.
I recommend every adults to watch it. The pace really pick up after the criminals went through US custom. The film has a great story line; keeps you glue to your seat in terror at time and laughing and in tears at others.
It would be unfair for me to single out Robert De Nero even though he was in his element, as everyone was suited for their particular role.
You may still have a chance to see it this month on More4 as I think their films are often rerun during the month.

Went to see 'Cape No.7' on 21.02.09 at Asia House, 63 New Cavendish Street, London W1, and enjoyed the movie very much. Was pleasantly surprised, it turned out to be a really good movie with a good story and muscical score. No wonder, this movie was the most talked about movie in Taiwan last year. Do see it if you get a change.
Met and chatted with the film director, Wei Te-sheng, after the screening in Asia House. What ashamed this movie did not make it on the shortlist for the Best Foreign Film Award at the Oscars 2009. I am pretty confident this talented director will win an Oscar (just as Ang Lee did) one day.
I love the the music in the above movie. Here is a sample vide:

The journey is 'awe-inspiring'
The film might be worth seeing, but the journey must definitely be screened.
Here's an inspiring story of 'victory of the self' against 'all the odds'; a story that transcends all barriers made by humans against humans.
I will definitely make the journey to see this film. |

l've been downloading and watching endless movies last few months. in terms of chinese films, the highlights being:
那山那人那狗{ postmen from the mountains } beautiful scenery of hunan.
for our resident miss spring vase and other mainlanders...the east is red [東方紅],spring in a small town[小城之春].wreaths under the mountains[高山下的花环] and girl basketball player no5[女篮5号]which was china's first colour film!
then theres the assembly[集结号]....red cliff 2 is better than part 1..cape no7 l found as cliched as bridgitte lin dressed as a man in a martial arts movie...if you pardon the pun...what pun?...well, no pun was intended...
which lead me to michael hui...saw most of them including the hui brothers ones...security unlimited was best of the early ones. then most of stephen chows....they were alright as entertainment..
martial arts...ip man, fearless, iron monkey, shaolin's 36th chambers...
japanese ones...kurosawa's dreams, after the rain, graves of the fireflies-both the anime and the tv made drama.
ooh and il postino and cronos...phoebe in wonderland...the straight story...some coen brothers again...laurel and hardy.
might give these two a go next...scenes of city life [都市风光] and Street Angel (馬路天使)...like 小城之春, they're really old films from the 30s...lucky to have found them really.
right, back to movies... _________________ we are the music makers

I recommend you download also Yoji Yamada's "Tasogare Seibei" (The Twilight Samurai), which is one of my favourite Japanese samurai movies. This movie won an unprecedented 12 Japanese Academy Awards (in 2003), including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. |
