twilight samurai is a decent enough film even though it is not a samurai film but rather it is a film about the latter days of the samurai era...so its more of a period drama. it is subtle, slightly melancholic, downbeat even and the pace is stately. l like it and the two hours went by without me fidgeting but l thought it lacked something [ambition?!] to make it 'great'.
l saw my first korean film...the good, bad and the weird
which l enjoyed very much. its like tarantino had taken the elements of the dollar trilogy and gave it a korean twist...very stylish with a cool swagger, extravagantly staged, dazzling camera work. great entertainment.
also recommending tampopo, a japanese film from 1986. to me,its about our relationship with food...good one for all those in the catering business...but some scenes seems to be tagged on...like sketches. |

Having read Lisa See's bestselling novel, "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan", I am looking forward very much to seeing the movie (same name as book) when it is released in the UK shortly.
The film is directed by Wayne Wang (of 'The Joy Luck Club' fame) and produced by Wendi Deng Murdoch. It will be released shortly for screening in China on 24th June 2011, and in the USA on 15th July 2011. Both Wayne Wang and Wendi Murdoch are currently in Shanghai to promote the film at the '14th Shanghai International Film Festival'. Earlier it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival (May 2011) as per this CCTV News report vide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aig319uQTu0
To view a trailer clip of the above-mentioned movie, log onto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wlk7TsdhsY .
For more details, visit the official site vide: http://www.foxsearchlight.com/snowflowerandthesecretfan/ .
It is hoped the above information is of interest to readers in this Forum.
Cheers. |

If you are reading this post and based in the USA, you will probably know that 'Empire of Silver' is currently being shown in the cinemas near you. I saw this movie in China when I was there in late 2009, and liked it very much. This film has not been released in the UK yet.
'Empire of Silver' is directed and written by Christina Yao, a Taiwanese based in the USA, and it is her first feature film. Saw this interview and thought it might be of interest to readers in this Forum. Log onto:

Hope Christina's movie does well in the box office in the USA, and look forward to seeing it again when it is screened in the UK in the near future. |
